What is Chiropractic

You have most likely been taught to think that chiropractic is some kind of treatment for back spasms, neck pain, sciatica, headaches…etc. It’s true, we do see a number of patients suffering with a variety of such problems in our clinic. More importantly though, chiropractic is much more than the simple relief of pain.  You may be amazed to learn that most problems that surface in our adult years actually occur because of injuries we experience as early as childhood.  Sport injuries, slips on the sidewalk, a fall off the bunk bed or a tumble on the monkey bars are but a few examples of early childhood injuries that lead us to have various health ‘conditions’ later on in life.  Even the birth process can be very traumatic to an infant spine.  And how many of you have been through this? All of you have! So all of these traumas accumulate over our entire lifetime causing our health to shift towards dis-ease.  Understand that symptoms is the end stage of disease, not the beginning!  Understand that symptoms is merely the body’s way of talking to you.  Symptoms is the body’s way of saying that it can no longer handle the dis-ease that have been happening inside your body for a very long time.  To be clear, by the time we feel pain the problem has already been there for years, if not decades!  This is how chiropractors think!  And now we are getting somewhere!

This is the reason why we place so much emphasis on children and ensuring that they are growing and developing properly with respect to their spine and nervous system. Your child’s spine is his or her lifeline!  You see, running through the spine is the spinal cord, which is constantly carrying billions of tiny electrical messages, from the brain to all of the different parts of your body.  The purpose of the messages is to make sure that all of the different parts of your body is function correctly. Imagine your brain being the computer or the central processing unit of the body and the spinal cord is a high speed internet LAN cable that sends the instructions from the brain through to the different parts of the body.  It is vital to make certain that this “information highway” has no obstacles so that all the messages sent by the brain can get to where they are trying to go.  If there is an obstruction in this highway, then the body starts to malfunction. Your body will not do what it is programmed and designed to do!   And this is not ok!  In fact an obstruction to the nervous system can be very serious and even life threatening.

Chiropractors call these obstructions “Vertebral Subluxations” – a fancy word that means misalignments of some of the spinal vertebrae (spinal bones) causing an obstruction to the transmission of nerve messages.

Now, you need to remember that the body is a self-healing organism – it is designed to heal itself.  Yes, mother nature is a great force! We are designed to be healthy! This means that our body has the ability to heal and recover, no matter what the condition – as long as the health program is not interfered with. For an example, did you know that you get a brand new liver every month or so. Yes, liver cells die and are replaced by new ones. Your red blood cells die every four months and are replaced by new cells – even your skeleton changes approximately every seven years. In other words, your body is designed to heal, and it follows a very exact health program to be able to do this.

That healing program is controlled by your central nervous system. As long as your nervous system is able to effectively communicate with every tissue, cell, organ, and nook and cranny of your body, without any interference, you should have the very best health possible. If your nervous system is not able to communicate with your cells, tissues, etc., your body will not have the ability to do what it is designed to do.  We call this “malfunction”. This is the predecessor to disease, symptoms and so on.  Being subluxated, especially as a child, is very serious.   Our mission is to eliminate this communication breakdown and restore law and order!  Our very specialized skill.  A skill that Dr. Mike has worked so incredibly hard to perfect is to be able to find subluxations in the spine and using his hands correct them with a very specific chiropractic adjustment!   This is known as very high quality chiropractic healthcare! And we offer it to you and your family!

Isn’t this simple?

Oh, a few words on ‘wellness’!  There seems to be lots of confusion out there regarding that funny word “Wellness”.  We see if everywhere.  In fact its in the title of our clinic.  But what does it mean? Most people have the notion that it refers to “feeling well.” In other words, when you feel well, you are in fact healthy. Right? Wrong! Wellness is not related to feeling well, it is related to how your body adapts to the everyday stresses of life and your own internal workings. If it can adapt and handle everything that is going on inside you with nothing interfering with that process, then you are in fact healthy.  You are functioning properly and therefore you are well.

As chiropractors our mission is to have your body function on a wellness level.  This is accomplished by eliminating any interference to our nervous system that may be preventing our body from functioning at its full capacity. If any vertebra in your spine is subluxated, it will literally short-circuit a part of your nervous system. You are therefore not well. Wellness care is designed to have a person experience the very best they can be and maintain that level of health.

It just makes sense!

We invite and even encourage everyone to come into our clinic to undergo our in-depth chiropractic evaluation of your health.  You will learn so much about yourself and we may make you well!   How can you loose out on that!
